Good for you for not beating yourself up because you take the same joy in creating costumes. I wish I wasn’t so hard on myself when my girls were little. We have purchased costumes for them over the years, and they were perfectly happy. Grandma still made the same fuss over them, no matter how they dressed up. That was most important. 🙂

Yes. I think you can make an argument that you only need to feel as much pressure as you allow others to impose upon you. My sister makes truly fabulous Halloween costumes. So creative, so wonderful, and so much fun to see every year. But she loves it.

I on the other hand don’t much care for making Halloween costumes. If I can buy a perfectly good costume for less than $20, I’m inclined to just do it, and spend my time on something I enjoy more. Yes, I love seeing the fabulously creative costumes on other people’s kids, but I’m not gifted in that direction, so I choose not to force myself to try. So far, my 6YO daughter has been perfectly content with her off the shelf Garfield, Elvis, and Astronaut costumes. Here’s hoping that lasts until she is also old enough to make her own costumes. 🙂
