I’ve had very similar experiences to what Carolyn expresses so well in her blog post. As I’ve written before, what unites all different types of farmers is much greater that what divides us.

It’s important to remember too, that attacks on one type of agriculture rarely come from farmers but rather from other organizations, so for a farmer to strike back against fellow farmers is unjustified and counter-productive: “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”!

None of us are perfect, but it’s up to each of us to try to set a good example. I hope you enjoy reading Carolyn’s post!

Eventually more and more people will come around and understand that the method isn’t important, it is that the message to the consumer clearly states we do it well!!

As I told him, it’s not organic farmers spreading the misinfo but groups that claim to represent organic farmers. And when you get hit with crap long enough, eventually you may sling some back or you may just vent in a way that makes people think you are slinging crap. Either way, everyone gets dirty and we all look the worst for it. We can all do better.

It is pretty sad. I miss the days of consensus, cooperation, understanding and listening. Conversations were much more pleasant.

I think, as a country, we have transitioned our national sport from baseball to arguing! The internet has brought us many great things (like dates with French models:)!), but it has also created a forum for spewing ugliness behind a mask of anonymity. And when that worked well, people decided they don’t even need to be anonymous. They can be nasty using their own name and there are no consequences. After all, I have the RIGHT to my opinion regardless of how expressing it may impact others.
Consensus, cooperation, understanding and listening are not valued. Being right and having one’s opinion heard trump all. It’s really pretty sad.
