Burn Baby Burn! Flame Weeding Video

I rode along with Jonathan while he was flame weeding the corn. If the video doesn’t answer your questions, feel free to leave them in the comments!

I grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis, MN. In 1988, I married my best friend and moved to the farm. Jonathan and I have three daughters, one son-in-law, and the most adorable granddaughter! I love life on the farm, and wouldn't trade it for anything!

    1. I will be out taking photos of the fields tomorrow. The corn is definitely growing fast right now, so the fields are turning green again in a hurry. I will attach the photos onto the end of this entry.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I am in the process of converting 220 acres of corn/beans to organic in southern MN (Waseca County). Can you tell me who manufactured your flame cultivator and the spacing of your rows?
    Thank you,

    1. Thanks for stopping by my blog, Mike.

Dennis Luettke, an organic dairy farmer near Wells, MN manufactured our flame weeder. We bought an old anhydrous bar, and brought it down to Dennis for the burner kits and set up. We are in the process of converting a used sprayer into a flame weeder, mostly because of the frame style and wheel placement. We use 22″ rows on our corn and beans.

  2. Very nicely done. Can you direct me to a company that makes this flame equipment? We are just getting started in the organic arena with 100 acres.

    1. Thank you! Where are you located? We had a guy in Southeast Minnesota make ours. We have since built a bigger one, and I hope to have some GoPro video of that one in action this summer.

  3. About how much an acre does this cost
I’m a new organic farmer in central mn and im looking for info on organic way of farming and I have been playing with the idea of organic corn
